This was Chicago Marathon training week #3. Mileage was still on the low side and I’m used to a much higher weekly number. I trust in the new training program I switched to and though it looks very simple for the first few weeks, I’m liking it. I know the hard stuff is coming up after some proper strength training and I can’t wait. It’s weird not having a race scheduled this month, July, and into August for the BTN 10K by Ram Racing but the temps are getting pretty brutal and hot races tend to not be too fun. I really want to PR for the BTN 10K and it’s difficult to train for a marathon at the same time as shorter distance races but I think the marathon training will pay off on these 5/10ks. Off to start week #4!
Monday June 20
Ran 5 miles at 9 minutes 11 seconds average around the baseball fields. The weather was pretty warm at about 85 degrees but still felt good. My legs weren’t too tired. Run was in the Nike Lunarglides.
Tuesday June 21
Ran 3 miles around my neighborhood at night at an 8 minute 24 second average. It was a short run but that’s what the training called for! This run was in the Under Armor Micro Z shoes.
Wednesday June 22
On duty at the firehouse, so that calls for treadmill running and 4 miles at 8 minute 42 second average in the Nike Lunarglides. I’ve become so used to my on duty treadmill runs that I actually don’t hate them so much.

Saturday June 25
On duty at the firehouse and we have been super busy running calls. I squeezed in my 5 miles at 8 minutes and 33 seconds average. Legs have been feeling fatigued for the last couple of days and while it’s not painful, it has been odd. I get that type of fatigue after heavy weeks of running or cross training but this week has been light. Run was in the Nike Lunarglides.
Sunday June 26
I decided to do a little cross training today and after a ton of chores, I went for an easy bike ride in the trails next to my house. I think this was a good change of pace for my legs. It was a beautiful night!

The leg fatigue may be your shoes. Didn’t you mention last week that you’re still looking for the right pair? Shoes make a huge difference.

Awesome work! We’re in sync with our blog updates this week 😄 I know what you mean with the fatigued leg feeling… I think it just happens with running so much – definitely nice to change the pace and do some cross training! Keep it up!!
