Monday July 11
Well, since I injured my back lifting heavy crap and was supposed to do my long run on Saturday, I had to postpone and get some much needed rest and recovery. I rested two days prior and then decided to try my run on this day since my back felt much better. My goal was 16 miles but ended up with 14 miles of hot sweaty mess in my Nike Lunarglides. In hindsight, I should have run in the Saucony Zealots as they’ve been my go to shoes for the long runs. The run started out as usual with the first couple of miles of leg tightness but after mile 3, everything seemed to loosen up. I knew it was going to be hot out so I brought 2 full water bottles. The main one sat in my Orange Mud HydraQuiver but the second one I carried. I’ll have to look into a handheld water bottle carrier since my overheating probably warmed up the water. I refilled the water bottles a couple of times at the water fountain in the forest preserve. I needed to get in a few 6 milers in the upcoming weeks if I wanted to PR for the Ram Racing BTN 10K on August 6th. Remember to use the code BibRaveBTN when you register to get a free headband and come run a fun college themed race. I’m running for University of Illinois and a few of my fellow BibRave Pros will be there as well.
Tuesday July 12
This was a rest day for me after my long run yesterday. I did absolutely nothing but stretch and use that evil foam roller. My legs felt tired but not painful. Maybe that’s a good thing and I’m betting used to long runs?
Wednesday July 13
5 on duty treadmill miles at 8 minutes 10 seconds pace in my Nike Lunarglides. Legs were a tad more stiff from the run so I used the foam roller yet again. I also ended up doing some strength training on the legs to build up a little more stamina. The leg extension isn’t the best for my knees but with lower weights and higher reps, it still did the job.
Thursday July 14
Days of running after my shift at the firehouse always seem a little tougher even if I have a full night of sleep. Plus, I’m not a morning person. I know that surprises you! I ended up running 5 miles at 8 minutes and 10 seconds average in my Nike Lunarglides. It was a little faster than I anticipated but hey, push it if you’re not hurt! (Insert eye rolling emoji)
Friday July 15
This was an unanticipated rest day as my schedule and much required chores just got in the way. Plus I napped. I need my naps so quit judging me!
Saturday July 16
So treadmills runs are just not easy. Long runs on the teradmill are even harder. I still needed to do my second long run of the week and since on duty again, I ran 10 miles at 8 minutes 44 seconds in my Nike Lunarglides. The shoes seem to be feeling a little better on my feet. I guess I needed to put in a couple of hundred of miles in to work them in!
Sunday July 17
I decided to take a rest day and pretty much do nothing! Well, I did more chores and prepped some baseball fields and carried a few hundred bags of turface to get the fields ready to play on after the morning’s downpour. I may end up riding the bike later.

Journey's From The Road
Good thing you got some rest with your hurt back – always good to listen to your body!!! And yes, treadmill runs are hard! 3 miles is pretty much my max on a treadmill and I always have weird ankle muscles sore afterwards. Keep up the great work!!
