I’ll begin with a brief background on the company and what they have to offer directly from their website. AMPLA, founded by a world-renowned sports scientist and athletic industry innovators, is committed to engineering footwear that amplifies athletic ability. Harvard trained sports scientist Dr. Marcus Elliott has tested and trained elite athletes through his P3 Sports Science Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Elliott has utilized advanced technologies to capture more than 30,000 hours of athlete data over the last eight years. This unparalleled wealth of athlete knowledge has been combined with over 100 years of experience in the athletic footwear industry to create breakthrough one-of-a-kind products. The AMPLA FLY, a revolutionary running shoe, is our first product.
So begins my personal experience with the shoe. Right out of the box comes a eye catching untraditional shaped shoe. The AMPLA FLY comes in two different colors for both men and women with a sharp black or a bold red. I opted for the latter being a firefighter of course! Even the box that it ships with is impressive. The shoe retails for $120 and there is FREE SHIPPING!
Right away, the Forcepower plate catches your eye. The plate is carbon fiber and is designed to gather force and maximize it upon push off. So, is it noticeable? Yes it is! After putting them on for the first time, I noticed what the shoe was designed for just by walking around my house. When you walk around and feel the shoe load and propel you forward, it’s obvious that proper running techniques can be learned from wearing them. The carbon fiber doesn’t come cheap, but it’s the perfect durable option that holds its strength when loading and propelling the runner forward.
Since receiving the shoes, I have probably put in close to 100 miles in them. Most of my runs were about 3 to 5 miles but I did have a handful of of longer runs to test out my pace in the shoes. My shorter runs were definitely faster than running without them. Being a heel striker (I know, no good) I did my best to learn what proper running feels like by utilizing what the shoes had to offer. So, besides being a little faster per mile pace, I noticed my legs becoming tested a little more with running mid strike to toe launches. This is a good thing! Now I get the design of this shoe!
